Understanding Marketing vs Non-Marketing Contacts in Fello

Learn how Marketing and Non-Marketing contacts differ from each other, and how to switch a contact's status in Fello.

Marketing Contact vs Non-Marketing Contacts


There are two types of contacts in Fello: Marketing & Non-Marketing. This distinction allows you to better manage your contact tier usage costs and optimize your marketing efforts.

  1. Marketing Contacts: These are contacts with full functionality that use up your plan's Marketing Contact limit. By default, all contacts added to Fello are considered Marketing Records. You can access their property information, enriched data, lead scores, and more. These types of contact can also be enrolled in Fello's marketing automations to drive leads and engagement. 

  2. Non-Marketing Contacts: These are non-billable contacts with limited functionality. When a contact's status is set to Non-Marketing, you will not be able to view Fello data points for them, like their Lead Score and AVM values. These hidden data points are typically depicted by a lock icon within Fello. These contacts will not be enrolled in any new automations and will also be unenrolled from any existing ones. You can always change their status back to Marketing at any time.

Managing Your Records

00:14: Navigate to the search bar, you can search by name, email phone or address.

00:20: Click on the contacts, name to open the editing.

00:25: once the contacts page has open navigate to the record status on the left hand side under details

00:33: Click on the pencil icon to open the edit option.

00:38: A drop-down will appear. You can select marketing or non-marketing.

00:44: Now, click save to continue.

00:47: If you would like to bulk update, your record status. Navigate back to the contacts tab.

00:55: Search for the contacts, you would like to bulk update.

01:00: Select the checkbox next to each contact, you would like to bulk update.

01:07: once you've selected all of your preferred contacts,

01:10: Click on select all records.

01:14: Now click more located on the right hand side.

01:19: When the drop-down appears, click edit record status.

01:24: Click on the drop-down for select record status.

01:28: You can now Mark all of those contacts in bulk as non-marketing.

01:34: Click save to continue.

01:38: Click confirm to finalize the bulk update and complete the process.

01:45: Fellow fellow fellow.


You have the flexibility to update a contact's status in Fello. You can easily change any Marketing Contacts to Non-Marketing manually, allowing for better control and management of your contacts. To do this:

  • Go to the Contacts module.
  • Select one or more contacts.

  • Click More above the list of contacts. 

  • Select Edit Record Status.
  • Select either Marketing or Non-Marketing

  • Click Save.

The record status will be updated for the selected contacts. 

You can also filter your contacts by Marketing or Non-Marketing status. This allows you to focus on the most relevant contacts for your marketing efforts.
